MACRO LESSON PLAN ON TYPES OF FORCE(PHYSICAL SCIENCE)

Pupil teacher’s Reg. no: 11303001                                                                Class: VIII
Subject: Physical Science                                                                               Duration: 25-30 Minutes
Topic: Types of force                                                                                      Date: 13/01/2014

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
1)     The students will be able to define force in their own words.
2)      The students will be able to explain the causes of tmovement of objects/bodies.
3)     The students will be able to enlist types of forces..
4)      The students will be able to distinguish and differentiate various types of forces.
5)      The students will be able to discover and explain muscular force, friction, magnetic force, gravitational force and electrostatic force.
6)      The students will be able to summarise various forces.
7)     The students will be able to associate various forces in everyday life experiences.

SPECIFIC AUDIO-VISUAL AIDS: Magnets, hanging container apparatus, ball, plastics scale and accessories for performing relevant types of forces.

PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE ASSUMED
It is assumed that the students have learnt about movement of objects, basics about cause of these movements, nature of different forces like gravity, magnetic force, etc.

INTRODUCTION:
PUPIL TEACHER’S ACTIVITY
PUPIL’S ACTIVITY
METHODS/TECHNIQUES/BOARD WORKS/AV AIDS
Pupil teacher will say that earth revolves around sun in the same manner other planets do just like entire universe moves continuously. Even your systems in body are in continuous movement.

Pupils will listen carefully

Lecture method

Then, the pupil teacher will perform an activity using hanging container (Pulling and pushing the hanged container to cause movement) and asks ‘What caused the movement of the container?’

By pushing and pulling the hanged container, what happened to its state of motion?

What do you call for push or pull exerted on the objects?
What are types of forces you know?

May be force

Pushing and pulling the hanged container caused the movement of it.

Force

No response

Questioning

Students,  today we are going to study about types of forces.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF TOPIC:
The pupil teacher will say that today we are going to study about ‘Types of forces’ by writing the topic on the board.

EVALUATION

Definition of force
Pupil teacher will say that we already discussed that force is push or pull exerted on an object.
Pupil will write on their notebook.

Definition of forece:
Force is push or pull exerted on an object.
Define force in your own words.

Types of force
Pupil teacher will ask students to enlist different types of forces.
Generally, force can be categorised into two major types namely contact force and non-contact force.

Pupil will say gravity, magnetic force, frictional force, etc

Brain storming

Mention the two general types of force.

Contact force

Pupil teacher will ask What you understand by the term contact.
Then, what do you think the contact force is?
Yes, contact force comes into play when two bodies are in contact. For example; muscular force and friction

With an activity on muscular force, pupil teacher will ask What your understanding of muscular force is.

Muscular force is resulted due to action of muscle. Example: lifting of book

Pupil teacher will perform an activity on friction and ask how friction can be a contact force?

Friction is an opposing force which acts against the direction of moving object.

Pupils say contact means in touch

Contact force is force come into play when objects are in contact

Type of force occurred due to muscle.

Because friction occurs only when bodies are in contact with each other.

Contact force is come into play only when two bodies are in contact. Muscular force and friction are contact force.

Steel scale for performing activity

Muscular force is resulted due to action of muscle. For example: lifting of books

Frictional force or friction is opposing force which acts against the direction of moving object.

With a daily life experience, explain contact force.

Describe types of contact forces with an example each.
Non-contact force

Pupil teacher will perform an activity with magnets and prove that magnetic force is a type of non-contact force i.e. without touching two magnets; they attract or repel each other.

Pupils listen carefully and note down in their note book
Non-contact force occurs without touching two objects. Magnetic force, electrostatic and gravity are non- contact forces

What do you understand by non-contact force?

By performing an activity, pupil teacher will explain the electrostatic force.

Note down in notebook
Plastic scale and pieces of paper.

Force exerted by a charged body on another charged or uncharged body is termed as electrostatic force.

What is electrostatic force?

By allowing a ball to fall down by releasing from hand, gravity has to be explained.
Pupils will observe carefully and note down.

Ball(Concrete object)

Gravity is force of attraction between all the masses in universe. Gravity of earth on an object is earth’s gravity.
Define gravity in your own words

RECAPITULATION: The pupil teacher will say that today we have studied about Types of force. We have learnt two general types of force and some sub-types of contact and non-contact force.
Recapitulation question;
1.     Define force.
2.     How force imparts movement to objects?
3.     Enlist types of force along with their sub-types and one examples each.
4.     Distinguish contact force and non-contact force.

HOME ASSIGNMENT:
Q 1. Suppose you are appointed as a senior scientist for Indian space mission 2050. You are asked to design a space transport system which can travel anywhere in the universe with maximum speed by challenging friction, magnetic force, electrostatic force and gravity that persist in the universe.
How will you design that space transport system?

[Ask help from your parents and study more on the types of forces.]
